Here's just a few photos from a day out we had recently.

The first is of the famous Malanda hotel. In spite of fires, white ants and time it remains the largest all wooden structure in the Southern Hemisphere.

A short while later at the small and very historical township of Ravenshoe, this "portable" engine must have been recently recovered from somewhere well off the beaten track. It is amazingly complete with no signs of tourist inflicted damage. When we saw it , it was stored in the old Railway yard near the restored steam engine "Capella".

Hopefully it is here to be restored as well.

In a corner of the same Railway yard is this old Blitz. Not very original as it has a relatively late model Ford OHV V8 engine in it, the front axle has been replaced with a beam axle from another make of vehicle, the original gearbox is gone and the chassis has been shortened up considerably. Not worth the effort to drag it out of wherever it was found in my opinion.
Steam powered bliss. Not to be outdone by their cousins in Atherton, the local steam preservation society has this restored engine. They also have an impressive array of rolling stock.

I want to go back here soon to get a later photo. The local electricity generation company is installing 18 of these giant wind generator to supplement grid power.
